Fylde Court
A six storey timber frame student accommodation project to house UCLAN students, situated in the heart of the city centre in close proximity to the university.
Project Summary
Built on the former site of the Jubilee Trading Estate, the fully boarded timber frame scaffold was built inside a very challenging footprint. The project consisted of two blocks and a communal building incorporating intricate part hexagonal-shaped entrance areas. This required constructing a series of individual towers, in line with the entrance profile. Also, the communal building was bullet-shaped into a point bullnose which required part of the external access scaffold to be built free-standing. The scaffold was initially erected to service the timber frame sub-contractor then subsequently the building envelope trade(s) including external brickwork, curtain walling and timber boarding.
Value Engineering
The customer requirements were for a solution enabling omission of ledger bracings within the lifts while providing a solution to allow additional inside boards quickly after removal of the initial hop-up brackets for the timber frame.
This was achieved using Enigma’s transom units which are a higher specification than those used by most of our competitors, and also allow the omission of ledger bracing; as well as the use of telescopic transoms that can be extended in seconds, allowing the fitting of inside boards.
