The £154m Glasgow Recycling & Renewable Energy Centre collects waste from the city and produces clean energy for the surrounding areas. The new-build renewable energy plant also delivers a saving to Glasgow of 90,000 tonnes of CO² per year, while providing enough energy to power the equivalent of 26,496 households.
Project Summary
Our scope was to supply and install thermal insulation and prefabricated sheet metal on the GRECC plant, consisting of 1.4 kilometres of process pipework and over 50 vessels and tanks, located in a series of internal, external and controlled environments.
Value Engineering
Enigma provided a full-time management and supervision team with specialist expertise, knowledge and experience to successfully deliver the challenging project. With the primary purpose to ensure the full range of products used were compliant and installed to a high standard. We were able to meet the criteria required for heat conservation, personnel protection and the maintenance of critical temperatures.
The products used throughout the project consisted of mineral wool, Armaflex and aluminium sheets. With valves and flanges insulated by using a combination of prefabricated removable boxes and flexible insulation covers. Additional challenges with the project included the requirement to provide a workforce with flexibility, enhance application times due to programme demands and contract handover. These demands were achieved by supply chain assistance, in house fabrication capabilities and the team’s ability to increase our productivity outputs and effectively manage the process.
